Teams & Transitions

March 30, 2018

Hello to all of our partners! I'm excited that the spring season is upon us, firstly because the snow is beginning to become less frequent so we can enjoy our wonderful city, but more importantly we are entering our first serve team season! Earlier this month we had our first team come up to serve Bethlehem. Shout out to Lakeview Baptist Church's college/young adult group "The Well!" This team helped us make a great first impression for what the community can expect with Star City serve teams in the future. We are also looking forward to the second week of April when the Centennial Baptist Association comes up as our second serve team!

For these two teams, partnered with Star City Church, we are serving a couple of local organizations in Bethlehem. The first is New Bethany Ministries, which is a non-profit organization that serves both the homeless community and those who are in need of temporary or long term assistance. The second is the Truth Home which is a women's therapeutic residential home that offers a safe space for survivors of sex trafficking.

Please pray for these teams and for the community we are serving. These mission teams provide us the opportunity to serve Bethlehem and form deeper connections over the course of a single week, when it would otherwise take a couple of months to do the same on our own.

Also pray for the individuals we connect with in the community. Our last team spent time asking people if they could pray for them. While most interactions were encouraging, there were some who responded with "I don't do that" or "I don't believe in that." I ask that you pray for God to soften the hearts of the people in our community, and that the Spirit will move ahead of us.

Ross Family Update

Over the past couple of months we have asked you for prayers for discernment. As you prayed alongside us, we prayed through God's next step for us and this spring I will be moving into full time ministry. I will be stepping away from Starbucks on April 6th. It has been an amazing time returning to Starbucks, but as the needs of our ministry grow and my training at Riverbend continues, we believe God is asking us to take this leap of faith.

This means we will be making more update and support trips in the future, as we still need to partner with more churches and individuals to grow our budget and income for this transition. We believe God has some big things in store (doesn't he always?) so you can be praying for us to fully understand and see what that is.

I am also asking that our prayer partners pray about financial partnership, whether it is one time as part of our "60 for $25" goal or as a monthly gift. We are currently $550 away from our goal which is a huge answer to prayer already!

Thank you so much for supporting us in prayer and encouragement. My hope with stepping away from Starbucks is to update you and visit you all more this year. If anyone is wanting an update in person, please let me know. We would love to visit and speak at your church or bible study in the next few months.

Thank you for praying on our behalf!

Please thank Him with us that:

  • we had our first mission team serve with us and it was an absolute joy!

  • that we are only $550 away from our "60 for $25" goal

  • Grace's seasonal job is still extended

  • He continues to move and call us forward daily

  • we have our second serving team coming next month

  • we continue growing in our relationships with our community both at Riverbend and in Bethlehem

  • He continues to provide for us in so many ways

Please ask our Father:

  • to help us connect with the artist community through our first Art & Music night in a local coffee shop (the evening of April 11th)

  • to lead us in partnership and relationship with our local community

  • for continued guidance on what needs we must communicate both as a church and as a family

  • for his help with our finances as Travis steps back from Starbucks and Grace's work hours continue to be reduced

  • for Grace to become a regular employee at the Disney Store

  • that he will provide for us a home of our own as we move into these next steps of ministry

"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

Ephesians 3:20-21
