We're excited that you are here.
We are missionaries living in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and we are called to reach the people of the Lehigh Valley. What does that look like? Well, we have joined with Riverbend Community Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania to disciple newcomers, develop leaders, and equip church planters to share the gospel.
WHAT IS CHURCH PLANTING?
If you hear "church planting" and immediately picture someone pushing little steepled seeds into the ground, don't worry -- we totally get it. The phrase sounds funny. To really explain everything a church plant is, we'd need a good chunk of time to sit down and chat over a cup of coffee or tea (which we would love to do, so please contact us!).
For now, we have the essentials:
Church Planting may sound like a new idea, but it's been around since the very first group of believers (meaning folks who believe in Jesus as the Savior of the world). It starts with a call from God (much like the first group of believers in Matthew 28:18-20). Then, the church plant grows when the group of believers do what God has asked of them (Acts 2:41-47). For us, we have been called to plant a church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. And we will do just as the earliest believers did – invite others into the life-changing love and salvation of Jesus Christ.
WHO ARE THE MISSIONARIES?
You read that "we" are missionaries, and the names behind the "we" are Travis and Grace Ross. Hi! We're the couple you'll see around town and the folks who will invite you over. We love that God has called us to serve the Lehigh Valley and we are excited to see what he does! If you want to learn more about us, feel free to contact us or hang out with us and ask as many questions as you please.
THE STORY BEHIND THE STAR
Why the name Star City? If you live in Bethlehem, it's pretty easy to figure out. But in case you didn't know, Bethlehem, PA has a lovely star that lights up every night and shines over the whole town. It was put up to commemorate the founding of Bethlehem, but there's a deeper meaning behind it. In fact, the name "Bethlehem" plays a big part in the story too.
The star that shines over Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is a representation of a real star that shone over the Bethlehem in Judea over 2,000 years ago. A little while after Jesus Christ was born, a star rose into the sky. A group of magi (or wise men) saw the star and knew that it meant a King was born, so they followed it. The star lead them to the house where Jesus was, and when they saw him they worshiped him and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
For believers today, the Bethlehem Star represents the birth of our Messiah. It reminds us of God's great love for us and the gift of eternal life he gave us through his son, Jesus Christ. If you would like to know more about this gift of freedom, and how believing in Jesus Christ will change your life, please contact us. We would love to talk to you.
